Membership

Membership in the Santee-Wateree Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America is open to men and women who are serving or have served on active duty as a commissioned or warrant officer in one of the seven U. S. uniformed services (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and Public Health Service) or in one of the National Guard or Reserve components. Widows and widowers of any deceased service members who would, if living, be eligible for membership are also eligible for auxiliary membership.

                                                  Benefits

The Santee-Wateree Chapter of Sumter has been a chartered affiliate of MOAA since 1970. Its current membership includes more than 300 officers and auxiliary members representing all seven uniformed services and all grades from warrant officer to general officer.

MOAA National is a leader in the Military Coalition that works to pass national legislation that benefits military members and their families. MOAA has many programs and benefits that can help you with everything from transitioning to a civilian career to booking discounted vacation travel. MOAA continually educates its members about their earned military benefits and entitlements. Members are continually updated about changes to legislation that affect their military benefits. Though not a requirement for chapter membership, membership in the national association is highly recommended. On the local level, the chapter sponsors a wide range of programs and activities throughout the year. These are some of the highlights:

-There are five dinner meetings each year for members, spouses and guests. These meetings include a social hour, dinner and a guest speaker on a subject of interest.

-There are two annual ÒfunÓ golf tournaments that conclude with a social and dinner.

-Our Legislative Committee keeps us informed of state and national legislation that we can weigh in on to protect the interests of all service members and their spouses- active, retired, officer and enlisted.

-We send out seven newsletters per year to keep the members informed on key issues and important events.

-Each year the chapter undertakes several community service projects. Annual awards are presented to distinguished JROTC cadets in our area high schools. We also present a scholarship to a deserving college bound high school graduate from the local area.

-Lastly, we publish an annual Membership Directory containing the name, address, etc, of all the members and information on military services in the local area.

We invite you to join our chapter and hope you will participate in the activities. It is a good opportunity to do things with friends you know and to make new ones.  Even if you are not able to participate, your membership gives us much needed support to win important battles like Survivor Benefit Plan revisions and Healthcare guarantees. Chapter dues are only $10.00. Members who have reached the age of 80 are eligible for free membership. Please contact the Membership chairperson to receive this entitlement.
